The Healing Power of a Gentle Touch

What is CranioSacral therapy?    It is a gentle touch in which the hands are used to assist the body's self-correcting mechanisms.  It works to dissipate the negative effects of stress on the body's nervous system.  It can be used in addition to massage and can also be used therapeutically on it's own.  It's gentle approach differs largely from direct touch therapeutic massage which forcefully imposes changes  on the body.  CranioSacral therapy  works with the bodies' own natural healing capabilities.  It has been shown to be effective with a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and loss of function.

Benefits of CranioSacral therapy: CranioSacral therapy has been shown to alleviate a wide range of conditions including infantile disorders, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, chronic fatigue, chronic neck and back pain,  emotional disorders, muscle and tension related disorders.  The focus of CST is to uncover the source of the problem and also provide symptom relief.  The number of sessions needed is extremely variable and depends on factors such as complex layers of trauma and injury as well as the body's defense mechanisms.  Clients report having more energy sleeping better and being sick less often.

How it works: Evaluating the bodies CranioSacral system takes about 5 grams of pressure, or about the weight of a nickel.  Measurements are taken at different parts of the body.  The CranioSacral system runs from the cranium to the sacrum (head to toe) and plays an important role in maintaining the environment of the central nervous system.  It consist of the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord as well as the attached bones.  Since the brain and spinal cord are contained with the central nervous system, it is easy to see why the CST system has a powerful influence over a wide amount of bodily functions.  Those trained in CST help the body release restrictions (those which it has been unable to overcome on it's own) and follow this gentle approach.  The method is safe for the client.  Conditions where this type of therapy may not be suitable is when aneurysm  or intercranial pressure exist.  CranioSacral therapy provides a new healthcare option: one that uses a gentle approach in working with the body.  By following the body's lead, a CranioSacral practitioner can often uncover the source of pain or dysfunction that can open a path to wellness.
